National Certificate: Occupational Health and Safety (SAQA ID 79806) NQF Level 3.


Brief Description


These courses are ideal for the candidates who do not have a grade 12 qualification, but would like to enter a career path in the medical field. Learners with a grade 12 pass has an added advantage. Learners who complete these full qualifications and skills programme will possess the competence required to perform ancillary health functions in the medical field. After training the candidates will be awarded a further education and training certificate and will be eligible for certain credit recognition in various higher education health qualifications. All these courses are accredited by and certified by the Health and Welfare Sector Education and Training Authority (HWSETA).


Outcomes
  • Communicate effectively using visual, mathematical and language skills in the modes of oral and written presentation.

  • Solve mathematical problems related to finances, patterns, statistics, shape, and motion using numbers and number systems.

  • Use a computer and computer systems.

  • Use science and technology effectively to collect, analyse, organize and critically evaluate information about occupational hygiene, safety, and workplace environmental conditions.

  • Identify and solve problems to make responsible decisions regarding workplace hazards and risks

  • Module 2: OHS & Hygiene Response

  • Module 3: Communication

  • Module 4: Maths & Information Technology Literacy

Methodology


Formative assessment: Portfolio of evidence will be submitted within two months after the training of each module. Assessment activities include evaluating all documentation produced during the process and questioning to test knowledge and ability to apply.

Final summative assessment: An Integrated Assessment will be conducted on the theoretical and practical components after all the modules are completed. During integrated assessments the assessor makes use of formative and summative assessment methods and assess combinations of practical, applied, foundational and reflective competencies.

Assessors and moderators make use of a range of formative and summative assessment methods. Assessors assess and give credit for the evidence of learning that has already been acquired through formal, informal and non-formal learning and work experience.


Certification


This programme is accredited by the Health And Welfare Sector Education and training Authority (HWSETA).

On completion, the following certification will be awarded:

A HWSETA National Certificate: Occupational Health and Safety (SAQA ID 79806) NQF Level 3 will be awarded to all delegates who successfully complete all portfolio requirements; Or


A HWSETA Statement of Results will be awarded to all delegates who successfully complete some, but not all, of the modules’ portfolio requirements. The Statement of Results will only reflect the modules successfully completed

Entry Requirements


Prospective delegates should at least have a National Senior Certificate (Grade 12) and/or relevant work experience.
